Ex-Man Utd Defender Jonny Evans Recalls the Time Zlatan Ibrahimovic Called Him a ‘B*tch’

Ex-Man Utd defender Jonny Evans has named current Red Devils star Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the toughest player he has faced in his career.

The Northern Irishman recently came up against the towering Swede in December 2016 for West Brom, a game in which United won 2-0 courtesy of two goals from the 35-year-old forward, but it was an earlier meeting between the pair that left a lasting impression on Evans.

“I came up against Zlatan Ibrahimovic when we [Northern Ireland] played Sweden,” he said, speaking to the Birmingham Mail.

He left one on me. I cleared the ball and he left his studs up – I thought I would try and make the most of it. He came over and was all like: ‘Get up, bitch.’ I thought I’d better get up!”

“I remember playing against him for Manchester United. I just remember the strength he had – he could put one arm out and hold me off – and I could see the skill he had.”

The forward’s win-at-all-costs mentality was a revelation for the Red Devils this season with his 28 goals almost keeping the club afloat during some difficult times.

Now, after a season-ending knee injury, Jose Mourinho’s men have been forced to cope without the enigmatic Swede and the manager will be hoping they can mirror his menacing attitude in the final weeks of the season.

Marcus Rashford is likely to be the man tasked with replacing Ibrahimovic, with crucial fixtures against Arsenal, Tottenham and Celta Vigo to come.

The direct, athletic approach from the Englishman could pay dividends for the Red Devils, particularly in games where they are forced to sit deep and counter.
