Manchester United injured players list grows to 18

Eric Bailly took the Manchester United first-team injury list up to seven against Swansea on Sunday but the crisis extends beyond Jose Mourinho’s side.

Paul Pogba is available again as the Celta Vigo semi-final first leg looms but United will still have to promote a youngster to their Europa League squad – unless Bailly recovers.

The quandary is United’s Reserves, depleted all season, have their own injuries to contend with. Scott McTominay’s surprise call-up on Sunday was possibly due to injuries suffered by Matty Willock – on the bench against West Brom a month ago – and fellow midfielder Devonte Redmond.

Joe Riley, loaned to Sheffield United in January, has played for the seniors twice yet has not played since February and is not expected to feature again this season.

On the United website’s Reserves players’ section, the only fit footballers are McTominay, Demetri Mitchell, Tosin Kehinde, Charlie Scott, Regan Poole, Matthew Olosunde and goalkeepers Dean Henderson and Kieran O’Hara.

Overall, at first-team, reserve and youth level, United currently have 18 injuries.
